November 2025
This Thanksgiving, we took a family cruise on the Norwegian Jade.
Our cruise departed from San Diego, so we started our adventure on Friday night taking the train from Santa Ana to San Diego. From the station, we walked to our hotel, and then walked to dinner in downtown San Diego. We felt like experts after all of our European adventures!
The next day, we walked across the street and boarded our cruise ship. We had a big, fun group cruising with us, including Patty and Bobby, Donna and Gary, Jack and Michelle, Andy, and the Brinkmans.
For our first few sea days, we explored the ship, did trivia, and played lots of board games. Flip 7, Yahtzee, That Escalated Quickly, and Cribbage were the favorites. We also played "Deal or No Deal" where Patty won $450, and Donna did quite well in the casino.
We enjoyed the production shows immensely including Latin Fusion, which combined pop music with Latin dancing, Broadway Cabaret, a showcase of some of Broadways biggest hits, and Blazing Boots, a country western review show that was spectacular.
Many nights we ate together in the dining room, but we also had a few memorable meals in the specialty restaurants, including a delicious visit to Teppanyaki, and a mouthwatering visit to the French restaurant.
Our ports of call were Puerto Vallerta, Mazatlan, and Cabo San Lucas. In Puerto Vallerta, we had various adventures, including a medical supply store hunt for a walking cane, visiting a local taco place, strolling the Malecon (one of my favorite places to visit), and of course wandering through the Puerto Vallerta Walmart. 🤣
In Mazatlan, several of us hiked up to the El Faro Lighthouse. It is a beautiful hike up, but lots of steps in Mazatlan sun was definitely a work out. At the top, we took in 360 views of Old Town Mazatlan and the Pacific Ocean. We also walked out on a glass bridge, daring the views for a quick thrill.
Our last stop was Cabo. We stayed on board but some of our group got off wand walked around the port area.
All in all, we had a wonderful, relaxing time enjoying beautiful views, amazing showers (yes, the showers on this ship were great!), yummy food, fun games, excellent shows, and most importantly, time with family and friends!
