Katelyn's first vacation!
For Spring Break this year, we went to Palm Desert to enjoy some chill time at Marriott's Desert Springs villas. Andrew and Graham joined us for our five night trip.
We arrived on Sunday and looked around the property - visiting the Shade recreation center and checking out the pools and playground. Our two bedroom villa was large and had a nice view of the golf course. Everyone loved their respective large bath tubs that we had. Andrew and Graham took a bath right away! For dinner, we went to Hometown Buffet (Pat and Oscars, our original plan, closed at 7:00 because it was part of the mall.) Andrew and Graham shared the guest bedroom . bath, while the Benedicts slept in the master. Geoffrey started his night on the air mattress but usually finished in our bed.
On Monday, Geoffrey, Kate and I went to Shade to do cookie decorating. Geoff frosted his cookies with strawberry frosting and then decorated them with green sprinkles. THEN he discovered the marshmallows! We spent midday at the Palmares pool. The weather was nice and warm, high 80s, and we all enjoyed swimming. This was Katelyn's first time in the big pool! They had a great kid pool that was one foot deep, and right next to it were some squirting fountains. Geoffrey LOVED playing in this area! That evening, the boys went out to wallmart to get some pool toys for our next trip to the pool, and brought back pizza for dinner.
We visited the Living Desert zoo on Tuesday. The weather was even warmer, low 90s, so we spent about 3 hours there. It was a nice zoo, though, and I'd love to go back again! Back at our hotel we had lunch and then headed for the pool. Most days, Geoffrey didn't nap at all, but slept in, and actually did ok. Geoffrey, Katelyn and I went to the playground while Grant and the boys got dinner. We had Chinese for dinner.
Tuesday night was a random tough night - Katelyn woke up like every two hours, and Geoffrey woke up twice, too, at different times. So on Wednesday I was exhausted. We had another low key day at the pool, and then headed to the mall for dinner. They had a nice food court, family break room, and play area, so it was a fun excursion.
On Thursday We went to the pool after lunch and then went to Boomers after dinner in the evening. Geoffrey miniature golfed for the first time! Well, he hit it a few times but found he liked bowling it better!
We drove home on Friday, stopping for lunch at John's Incredible pizza in Riverside.
All in all, it was a nice change and fun to really just relax at a resort... but it certainly wasn't as restful as usual with all of the kids! (o;
